about
The title of Abijah’s new EP, ‘Beyond Me. .’ is a play on words. The phrase “beyond me” is often used to describe something that is impossible to understand or know the reason for. Something that is outside of the self. The lyric “sometimes, I find it hard to believe that there’s anything beyond me” (from the track ‘hard to believe’) envelops this idea quite succinctly. The realization that it is impossible to understand everything is balanced delicately against the feeling that there is still limitless potential to know more things. The inability to get out of one’s own head and rely only on the self pulls against the knowledge that there must be something greater “beyond me”.
‘Beyond Me. .’ carefully places these existential questions against a dreamy “bedroom folk” backdrop. With a mix of acoustic warmth, analog rawness, and digital textures, Abijah creates a sonic world that defies genre and pulls the listener simultaneously
inwards and outwards.

about
‘8:54’ is an EP that acts as a musical reflection on the process of growing up. Conceptually, the project is bookended by ‘a.m.’ and ‘p.m.’, which frame the time-related concept of the EP in a very direct way. This collection of lo-fi songs were written over 2020 and early 2021, in the depths of lockdown, and their incomplete and imperfect nature reflects the beginnings of Abijah’s exploration into making music. ‘8:54’ was released on 25 Jun 2021, the day after Abijah’s high school graduation.
